What is Children Development:

Human beings are not static entities, they keep on changing. We change physically over time from conception through adolescence.

How and why do children grow, develop and learn?

Development refers to systematic changes which lead an individual from dependency to autonomy throughout his lifetime i.e going from womb to tomb.

Do you know the factors that are influenced in development?

We are influenced by nature (genetics) and nurture (the environment).

It means that when and where we live and our actions, beliefs, and values are a response to circumstances surrounding us.

The key here is to understand that behaviors, motivations, emotions, and choices are all part of a bigger picture.

What are the three domains of Children Development?

There are  three general domains of children development:

Physical Development: It includes height and weight, change in gross and fine motor skills, sensory capabilities, the nervous system, as well as the propensity of disease and illness.

Cognitive Development: The changes in intelligence, wisdom, perception, problem-solving, memory, and language.

Social Development and Emotional Development: It focuses on changes in emotion, self-perception, and interpersonal relationships with families, peers, and friends.

Women and Children Development:

Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS)

ICDS is a centrally sponsored scheme implemented by state governments and union territories.

It aims at providing supplementary nutrition, immunization, and pre-school education to the children.

Objectives: To prevent and reduce young child under-nutrition (% underweight children 0-3 years) by 10%, enhance early development and learning outcomes in all children 0-6 years of age, improve care and nutrition of girls and women and reduce Anaemia prevalence in young children, girls, and women by one fifth by the end of 12th five-year plan.

Beneficiaries: Children in the age group of 0-6 years, Pregnant women, and Lactating mothers.

Importance of Development of Physical Self:

Heredity is one of the influential factors that affect the development of the physical self of children.

Heredity is the transmission of physical characteristics from parents to children through their genes. It influences all aspects such as height, weight, intelligence, aptitudes, diseases as well as conditions.

Why are playgrounds important for children’s development?

children are playing outdoor in order to develop motor, social and emotional skills.

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that children love the playground. In Fact, kids of all ages including adults would not miss opportunities of playing around if one happens to be in the playground.

The freedom of running around, going up and down the slide, swinging back and forth gives the feeling of euphoria that makes anyone feel good.

The importance of Children going to the playground cannot be overlooked.

The book published by ACEI (Association For Children Education International), The developmental benefits of playgrounds discusses the significant contribution of playgrounds in the comprehensive development needs of the child.

There are three main significant benefits, we can get

Motor Skills Development: A playground is a place where a lot of physical activities are involved, as such the kid’s physical ability is naturally developed. The setup of a playground requires a child to make use of his or her body parts.

And going frequently to the playground,  the child’s motor part is expected to be improved certainly.

The equipment in the playground allows the child to perform simple basic tasks such as picking up objects from the ground to more complex tasks like crossing the monkey vase.

No matter the more physical activities the child’s get into, use of muscle movement is important.

Social skills Development: The playground encourages children to interact with one another. In this type of activity, the child’s social skills developed. Kids learn the basic manner of introducing themselves to new people. This kind of environment teaches the child how to make friends.

Some values that a child learns from the playground are:

  • It elevates the emotion and resolves the complex.
  •  Patience such as waiting in line for the turn to come on the slide.
  •  Empathy such as comforting the playmates to the heart

The children who are engaged in free play are unlikely to develop depression and hostility, and  commonly be from excessive fear and worry.

As children are exposed to different types of people, they learn to become adaptable to whatever circumstances they are currently in.

Cognitive Skills Development: Children who are engaged in outdoor playing such as a playground enhance their ability to make decisions as they explore their play environment. It can also give them an opportunity to broaden their imagination. The endless possibilities and the unknown things that could happen stimulate their critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.

In the long term, excelling in the academic areas of their lives such as mathematics, science is possible. There are a lot of activities for children to keep themselves busy whether entertainment or educational.

The playground encompasses all the development aspects that parents want their kids to experience which both covers entertainment and educational factors.

The significant benefits of the playground are valuable tools for parents to invest in for their kids.

Emotional Intelligence:

It is the best-suited one for the emotional development of children. It can be learned and practiced.

Kids also experience complex feelings like adults. They also get frustrated, excited, nervous, sometimes angry or embarrassed.

Emotional intelligence is being smart with such feelings.

Kids don’t have the vocabulary to communicate their feelings. They express themselves in other ways.

We all like when a child is smiling, sharing and saying sweet words.

Things to be kept in mind while dealing with the child who faces challenges of any negative emotions:

  • Support your child to express his feelings and give it complete attention.
  • Listen to your child, and honour and protect his emotional life.
  • Talk to the child, make him believe that you are on the same side.
  • Give one on one time to the child specially when he is upset about something.
  • Don’t underestimate your child’s ability to learn and grow.
  • Acknowledge your child’s perspective and empathize.
  • Praise your child when he talks about his feelings.
  • Set the right example by handling your emotions well.

Children have an innate capacity to develop into high-functioning adults who can solve problems and respond intelligently to daily tasks. They need a hand holding to learn and grow.
